![]() available as LP/CD |
Aretha's Older Sister Presenting Her Impressive Soul Performances - Vinyl On Special 220 Gram Pressing! to some, Erma Franklin is simply known as Aretha's older sister or as the woman who originally sang "Piece Of My Heart". But her brief recording career highlights some of the most impressive Soul performances ever to be pressed on hot wax!! Super Soul Sister contains "Soul Sister", the last album Erma recorded from Brunswick, which had many of the successful singles she had recorded the previous years, plus 3 bonus tracks. This set had never been available before on CD and presents an amazing collection of Soul classics, such as her first Brunswick single "Gotta Find Me A Lover", her equally dance floor popular cover of the Jackie Wilson hit, "I Get The Sweetest Feeling", and Erma's amazing renditions of classics such as "Son Of A Preacher Man".

Their Only Album Cut By This Hip Chicano Combo - Vinyl On Special 220 Gram Pressing! this is the only album cut by the fantastic Village Callers, a hip Chicano combo with an equal talent for handling Soul, Latin, Sixties Rock and Funk! this set was recorded live at the Plush Bunny Clu. it features a great range of excellent numbers, including the group's famous reading of "Hector", known by many for its great break on the intro, which the Beastie Boys sampled. the album also includes a very good taste selection of covers, from Ray Charles "I Don't need No Doctor" to a superb medley of Aretha Franklin's funkiest numbers. The Village Callers were a very popular band in East L.A. round 1968, more significantly, it is widely known that they recorded a version of Evil Ways before Santana had done it. we have included 2 bonus tracks that have been out of print since 1968 ("Evil Ways" and "I'm Leaving").

Armando's One And Only Album As Bandleader - Vinyl On Special 220 Gram Pressing! Armando Peraza's talent lies in the complexity and originality of the rhythms he develops. interestingly, the effect is not that of a series of drum solos but rather strangely melodic in the most exciting Latin Tradition. he thrived in progressive settings that combined Jazz and Afro-Cuban idioms and was at the vortex of a new musical expression named "Cubop." he has performed on more than 100 albums and is the songwriter of more than 40 songs. some of these works include collaboratorations with Mongo Santamaria, George Shearing, Cal Tjader and Carlos Santana. "Wild Thing" from 1968 is Armando's one and only album as leader. for this album he worked together with the best musicians anyone could dream off (Johnny Pacheco, Sadao Watanabe, Chick Corea, Bobby Rodriguez, Tommy Lopez, Cal Tjader, Gary McFarland,..).

Cal Tjader - Solar Heat - Vampi Soul LP/CD
|
||
![]() available as LP/CD |
Sounding Out An Offbeat Set Of Burt Bacharach Originals this 2-in-1 set (two complete albums on CD, a selection from them on LP) catches Cal Tjader's mid-career in the first two of three albums on Skye Recordings, the label he owned with fellow musicians Gary McFarland and Gabor Szabo. "Solar Heat" was recorded in January 1968. Tjader is beautifully framed here by Gary McFarlandís crystalline arrangements and Joao Donato's gorgeously understated organ. Tjader and McFarland are ideally matched here. recorded eight months later, "Cal Tjader Sounds Out Burt Bacharach" is a curious collection that continued Skye's reputation for putting a pretty polish on pop perennials. Tjader sounds out an offbeat set of Burt Bacharach originals with a rhythm section of L.A. studio musicians and an ever-subtle sprinkling of overdubbed horns and strings.

Featuring All Of Richard's Rare And In-Demand 45s Richard Caiton is an 'underground hero' on the Soul scene, particularly in the UK and in Japan where his music is highly acclaimed by Soul fans and collectors. Grapevine have put together this 'career collection' album featuring all of Richard's in-demand tracks plus six previously unreleased masters recorded at Malaco studios in the early 1970s. With informative liner notes, this album will introduce Richard Caiton's music to a much wider audience - particularly in the USA where, sadly, he remains unknown to most. many of Caiton's records are now hard to find and have become expensive collectors items.
