V.A. - The Dial Records Southern Soul Story - Kent 2CD
![]() available as 2CD |
In-Depth Double-CD Retrospective Of The Magnificent Southern Soul Recordings From Nashville An in-depth double-CD retrospective of the magnificent southern Soul recordings for Buddy Killen's Dial Records of Nashville, Tennessee, made between 1963 and 1975. the biggest Dial hitmaker was Soul supremo Joe Tex. his biggest hits are here, headed by 'Hold What You've Got' and 'I Gotcha'. in addition, there are four of his rare early sides that are new to CD, including the in-demand 'I Wanna Be Free’. the compilation is chock-full of cult records by Paul Kelly, the Dialtones, Little Archie, Frederick Knight, Len Wade, Chris Harris and Annette Snell (a major revelation!). there is an interesting New Orleans R&B connection through Bobby Marchan, Clarence “Frogman” Henry, Jean Knight and King Floyd. this is classic Southern Soul music in all its rich variety, from the anguished sounds of the church to Northern floor fillers and Funk.

Featuring Two Dozen Shining Examples Of The Increasingly Vanishing Art Of Group Soul a companion piece to Kent’s well-received “Impressed” compilation (CDKEND 205) featuring two dozen shining examples of the increasingly vanishing art of ‘group Soul’ from the genre’s most prolific and definitive era (1968-77). highlights here include early recordings by subsequent Soul superstars like the Jackson Five and the Floaters, superior examples of the work of genre heroes, such as Lee Williams and the Cymbals, and prized ‘modern Soul’ collectables such as God’s Gift To Women’s ultra-rare ‘Let Your Heart Be The Judge’. at least 75% of the material here is making its CD debut, and virtually all of that 75% is also making its reissue debut!

First Ever Collection Of The Sought After Recordings Of The Fatback Band , Label And Oranisation before Fatback was the name of a band that forever changed the face of street Funk in the early 70s, it was also the name of a New York record company, run by Fatback Band founder Bill Curtis, that released a handful of now-impossibly-rare 45s in the mid-late 60s.“Fatback’s Soul Shop” is the first ever collection of these sought-after recordings. compiled with the input and approval of Fatback’s Gerry Thomas and Bill Curtis, who provide their own reminiscences of the early Fatback days in the expert annotation. several of these titles are Northern Soul perennials, others are equally acclaimed as early examples of quality Funk. all of them provide early glimpses of the Fatback sound as the world came to know and love it in the following decade.

Marilyn Scott - I'm In Love Once Again - Expansion CD
![]() available as CD |
Brandnew Album From This Nu Soul/Smooth Jazz Artist 'I'm In Love Once Again' is Marilyn Scott's first CD for Expansion and a UK debut after seven albums for labels in the USA. the UK release is primarily a re-working of Scott's current US album 'Walking With Strangers' with additional songs such as the title cut, a stunning interpretation of the Dexter Wansel song 'I'm In Love Once Again' first immortalised by Jean Carne. Scott has never viewed herself as solely a jazz artist - and the blend of vintage r&b, classic jazz, Brazilian rhythms, and good old-fashioned pop on the new album places her more in the "eclectic" category.
